RESISTANCE WITH EXERCISE

Research reveals factor that protects against serious coronavirus disease: "Clear link in both men and women"

Good condition appears to protect against severe coronavirus disease. Exercise is known to strengthen resistance.

Good physical condition protects patients with coronavirus infection from hospitalization based on data collected in the United States, said Arto Hautala, Assistant Professor of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Sports Science, University of Jyväskylä, in a webinar on sports medicine.

- The study has taken into account confounding factors and found a clear link between both men and women. Good muscle condition matters, and it needs to be taken care of, Hautala said. The connection is maintained regardless of the patient's age and weight.

"EXERCISE STRENGTHENS RESISTANCE"

said Arto Hautala of a study published that endurance and muscle training improve the effectiveness of an influenza vaccine.

- The training prolongs the protective effect of the influenza vaccine, as the antibody response of the immune system lasts longer, Hautala said. Hautala emphasized that the exceptional circumstances of the Korona period should not be allowed to stop the exercise.

- Good physical condition and regular exercise strengthen the immune defense and are likely to protect against coronary heart disease and promote healing from the disease, Hautala said.
